چکیده

Random blood samples were col lected from the stroke patients meeting following cr i te r ia : In t ra cerebra l haemorrhage or cerebra l thrombos is d iagnosed by bra in CT; No blood in vent r icu lar sys tem or subarachnoid space on bra in CT; No evidence of organic heart disease or other poss ib le cause o f cerebra l embol i sm. Cigare t te smokers and a lcohol ics were excluded. The study population consisted of 46 patients with CVA, and 50 age and sex matched normal sub jec t s. 46 pat ients included 16 cases (males 10, females 6) of intracerebral hemorrhage and 30 cases of cerebral thrombosis (males 21, females 9). All these patients were in an acute phase of stroke. Thus, the study included 3 groups hemor rhagic s t roke, thrombot ic s t roke ( i schemic s t roke) and contro l g roup. 12 i schemic s t roke pa t ients who rece ived aspirin (150 mg/day) or clopidogrel (75 mg/ day) or warfarin (5 mg/day) were considered for follow up studies, after one month of t rea tment .

Quercetin Protects DNA from Oxidative Damage in Diabetics

Quercetin Protects DNA from Oxidative Damage in Diabetics Diabetics have reduced antioxidant defenses and an increased risk for free-radical mediated conditions such as heart disease and retinopathy. Quercetin, a dietary flavonoid with antioxidant properties, has been shown to protect retinal pigment epithelial and cortical cells during oxidative stress in vitro1, and to inhibit tyrosine kinase...

تاثیر ورزش مستمر بر کاهش آسیب‌پذیری غشاء سلولی، وضعیت دفاع آنتی‌اکسیداتیو و استرس اکسیداتیو

Background & Aim: The biological effects of potent oxidative agents in human body are under anti-oxidative control. Functional defects of organs may result from reactions of free radicals with the cell membrane. It is known that major targets of oxygen radicals are cell membrane lipids. Some reports indicate the role of peroxides in development of atherosclerosis. Human body tissues(eg.eryt...

Reactive Oxygen Species and Antioxidant in Seminal Plasma and Their Impact on Male Fertility

Spermatozoa generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in physiological amounts which play a role in sperm functions during sperm capacitation acrosome reaction (AR) and oocyte fusion. In addition damaged sperm are likely to be the source of ROS. The most important ROS produced by human sperm are hydrogen peroxide superoxide anion and hydroxyl radicals. Besides human seminal plasma and sperm posses...

Different patterns of oxidized lipid products in plasma and urine of dengue fever, stroke, and Parkinson's disease patients: cautions in the use of biomarkers of oxidative stress.

Many products of lipid oxidation have been associated with human diseases. These include F2-isoprostanes (F2-IsoPs), hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid products (HETEs), and cholesterol oxidation products (COPs). Here we present measurements of F2-IsoPs, HETEs, COPs, and arachidonate in single plasma samples of patients with acute (dengue fever and ischemic stroke) and chronic (Parkinson's) diseases,...

تأثیر استرس اکسیداتیو حاصل از مصرف سیگار بر فعالیت آنزیم‌های گلیکولیزی هگزوکیناز و پیروات کیناز در اریتروسیت‌های افراد سیگاری

Background & Aim: Hexokinase and pyruvate kinase are two regulatory enzymes of glycolytic pathway in erythrocytes. Increasing evidence suggests that cigarette smoking which produces free radicals and oxidative stress can cause damage to body macromolecules such as proteins and enzymes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the susceptibility of key enzymes of erythrocytes glycolyt...

پاسخ‌های همودینامیک در پی لارنگوسکوپی و لوله‌گذاری تراشه: پروپوفول در مقایسه با تیوپنتال سدیم

Background: The risk of atherosclerosis and cancer is high in hemodialysis (HD) patients. There is evidence that HD causes oxidative stress. However, the causative factors of oxidative stress are unknown. It has been suggested that HD imposes an additional oxidative stress on patients with chronic renal failure by activation of granulocytes on dialyzer membranes resulting in an imbalance betwee...
